Soil
Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc shows lifted notes of blackcurrant leaf and fresh herbs. The palate is crisp and fresh and finishes with a flinty mineral note typical of the Seaview Vineyard. Beautiful with barbequed seafood – especially mussels, fish, and mezze plates.
Fruit for our Sauvignon Blanc grapes are grown in the premium sub-region of Awatere Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand – one of the most renowned regions for Sauvignon Blancs in the world. These vineyards have stony, free-draining silts and crushed granite deposits.
Climate
New Zealand is a cool climate South Pacific paradise, ideally suited to making refined and distinctive white wines.
Sunshine hours are among the highest in the viticultural world. Low rainfall ensures ripe fruit and provides the basis for concentrated flavours. High sunshine hours, strong coastal winds and cool nights combine to create wines with high concentration of flavour and capture the essence of our unique terroir.
Sustainable Winemaking
We are proud to be an accredited member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand and our vineyard is operated in accordance with this scheme’s guidelines. This programme is an independently audited system that ensures minimum use of artificial inputs and human interferences.
Sustainable Initiatives Include
- Grazing sheep in the vineyard over winter to reduce the need to mow. This encourages nutrient recycling and aids soil health
- Encouraging beneficial organisms to grow
- Management of soil health and nutrition
- Encourage predator insects who deliver a natural pest control system while also adding to the biodiversity in the vineyard
